I thought i worked hard to catch fish untill i heard the explanation on the planer boards!!!! Now thats WORK!
good info
I made planer boards out of small pieces of cedar. They are a great tool to search very shallow water in the spring. The boards I made are a lot lighter than the bigger plastic ones so I can use them on my regular crappie rods. I'll tie on a 1/32 oz. jig with a twister tail grub, let out about 40 ft of line (6 lb mono), clip on the board and let out as much line as I want to bring the board out to the side of the boat. The grub can be presented to fish in 2 feet of water if necessary and they won't get spooked because your boat can be 30, 40, 50 feet away. It does take extra time and a little practice but it's worth the extra effort especially when the fish are in that shallow water.
great information and video
