    Default Take me fishing...

Size: 78.0 KBMy wife and two oldest were gone all weekend with the church (dnow) so me and my youngest were batching it. I told him we could do whatever you want to. He said Daddy, take me fishing. We headed to Harding with a bucket of minnows. It was a little windy and lots of boats but we found a spot where I knew there was small ditch that lead to some shallows. We dropped some minnows in and wasn't long before his bobber disappeared. i got excited and started screaming reel, reel, reel. You'd thought we was on a episode of wicked tuna. After that first one it was slow but steady for the next few hours with some small ones and a few good ones. When he would catch one he would reel it up to the boat, hand his rod to me and get the net cause apparently, netting em is like catching em twice.lol We had a great day and caught enough for a good supper. When we got home my wife was back and had already cooked so we sat down to eat. He finished eating before I did and jumps up from the table looks at me and says come on Daddy, them fish ain't gonna clean themselves...he might have heard that somewhere before!

    What a wonderful bonding experience.

That's how I started with my son 30 years ago. I took him to Toby and we got into some white bass. He was using a Zebco 33. The 3rd white stripped the plastic gears in the reel. I gave him another combo just like the first one. That one didn't last much longer.

He is 35 yo no and still talks about that day.

    Way to go Dad.

I sure have enjoyed fishing with my father over the years. It seems like each trip we go on gets better and better. I have a little boy due in June and I hope and pray that I will be blessed to make memories like that with him. Great post!!
