Default New to Boating, new to Lake Lanier. Hecks Im a newbie all the way around.

Hello guys, so I have a boat and I live in norcross and I want to catch crappie year round. I am really unsure as to how to go about fishing a lake since I was raised beating the banks. To be honest I get pretty overwhelmed as a boat brings a completely different element as you all know.

I am closer to the South end of the lake but it seems to me that everyone fishes the north end of the lake. I am now fact finding to be as educated as possible since I am on call this weekend. But next Thursday I will officially begin fishing from my boat.

Any tips ideas or clues. Friday evening I was going to ride to the dam and just put in to do a little driving to get familiar with the lake.

Thanks guys hope to see you on the water.

Check with Baitman. He posts on the DIY plastics forum and here. He lives close to Lanier and fishes there a lot. He knows how to find crappie on Lainer and makes some awesome baits too. Send him a PM. Welcome to the board and congrats on the boat too.

Welcome to the boards TB. You probably wont find many people fishing this time of the year but the fish can be caught. There are some I'm sure that fishes 12 mos a year and maybe they'll chime in and get you started in the right direction. Nothing replaces a good map and time spent on the water.

lanier is a good size lake. Regardless of how big a boat you have you will be best served in breaking the lake down. Find a creek and learn how to fish it , then apply those techniques to other areas of the lake. Don't try to fish the whole lake at one time. You can find info on just about any technique for crappie fishing on CDC .Page back to older post and absorb what ever you can. Good luck and keep us posted. What kind of boat do you have ?

Thanks for the advice, I am doing pretty much everything you guys are suggesting but your right nothing beats time on the water. I have a used 18 85 foot bass boat. The company that made it went out of business, I've taken it out a few times but it needed various repairs so I am finally now able to get it out. It came with an older Hummingbird 200 DS so my next purchase will be a new fishfinder preferrably something capable of GPS.

It has been very hot so I'm trying to study up on what other guys have done on Lake Lanier in the Fall in years past.
Normally we go to West Point or Weiss and beat the bank but with gas I figure it would be just as nice to fish locally. I'll be sure to keep everyone posted.
