There are some great stories in this thread! Very entertaining stuff.

The oddest catch I've ever had happend one night about 5 years ago. My Dad, Uncle, and my wife and me were all out catfishing one night. We were fishing on my dad's pontoon and just had a few rods leaned up on the seats fan casted around the boat. We had been anchored for about an hour with no luck when I noticed one the poles up front getting a bite. I ran to the front of the boat and picked the rod up. I didn't feel like a catfish, but more like a bass running with a plastic worm. Well, I reeled in a little slack and set the hook into what felt like a log. My first thought was that my bait had gotten hung on a log floating down the river. I started pulling in my catch and noticed a a piece of fishing line wrapped in my line so we grabbed it and pulled the first couple items in the boat, a lost crappie pole with a dead turtle on the line. At this point I started feeling the pulse of fish. I kept winching him in and to my surprise I had a gar. We were still laughing about the crappie pole and dead turtle and i noticed some more fishing line wrapped around the gars midsection. So, without hesitation, I began tugging on it. At the other end was a Zebco 33 and a fiberglass rod. We still talk about that catch to this day. 1-gar, 1-turtle, 2-rod/reel combos ALL in 1 cast!
Hooking up every chance I get!

Last year, was smallmouth fishing out of a canoe in a small river. I was using a spook top water bait early that morning. I ended catching some creek chubs on down the river so I re-rig my pole for minnows. We get back in the canoe and push off. First cast i turn in my seat to cast behind us when I felt something had my shorts leg. So instead of looking down to figure out what it was i just forced myself around. Well to my suprise when i removed the spook I laid it in my seat.............................. that was a mess. one treble hook was in my backside and the other hooked to the seat. only a coupel inches of play there. All i kept thinking was I'm going to have to ride it out the rest of the trip laying facing down in the canoe with a canoe seat stuck to my rearend. I was able to get it unhooked after a few agonizing minutes. I always make sure baits go in the box now. now.......................

Thought I'd throw my strange catch in here. I was down near Pensacola, Fl last May, and we were fishing from a surfside pier down there. I caught a brand new $5 lure. Of course, maybe that's not that unusual, but the way it happened is kind of strange.

The ladyfish were schooled and in a feeding frenzy. We were throwing these `Gotcha` plugs that are popular on the surf. If you've ever caught a ladyfish, you know that they are some violent creatures once you get them on a hook. We could only land one out of three or four fish that we hooked. They thrash and jump so violently, that by the time you get them on the pier, they're a bloody mess. The trick, by the way, is to use a really light lure and small hook - they can't throw that nearly as easily. That is, of course, if you actually are trying to catch them. We were casting to spanish, but the ladyfish would come through and it was a wrap - they'd take the lure in a flash.

Well anyway, these ladyfish were so eager to attack a lure, that I foul hooked one in the side, and when I got it up on the pier, it had a brand new Gotcha plug hooked in its mouth that broke off from a previous hooking. I guess it couldn't bite the lure, since its mouth was full, so it had to figure out a different way, lol...

Fishin in the early 80s, a high school buddy and I were Fishin a river in central illinois when he hook something. He finally got it to the bank, it was a nice rod and reel. He got it out of the water, dripped it in the water a few times to get the mud off. Started casting it and then threw his old rod in the river. I said what the hell did u do that for, he said its a lot nicer than the one I brought with me. We still laugh about that day

Hope I don't get this thread banned, but just yesterday my friend and I trolled around a sharp point into a small cove and we caught a couple having $ex out in their flat bottom boat. No lie! .

We had seen them go by about an hour earlier and noticed the girl was wearing a black and green bikini and we both commented about not ever being lucky enough to take a girl in a bikini fishing. Believe me, a woman in a bikini is a rare sight on this particular lake. We just laughed a bit as they went by and kept fishing our old favorite spots, then we decided to try a spot in the little cove just around the corner.......no need to fire up the outboard, just kicked the trolling motor up on rabbit speed 5. Came around the point and ! They didn't see us at first, but she finally noticed us and went to scrambling. He fired up his 9.9 motor and they putted by us and headed on around the corner.

There's a first time for everything, I guess. Crossed that one off of both of our bucket lists, and the guy in the flat bottom's too!

Again, sorry if this gets banned or deleted, but it is TRUE and was a very "now that's the LAST thing you would expect to catch" moment. GTT
