Yes the Panoptix is the real deal and No one else has anything close. Garmin 2d sonar is ex too but di and si are terrible compared to the othe brands.
And for schooling fish there is no better way to stay on the school if they are moving.
Turn trolling motor till you see fish. Either cast to them (since you know depth, direction and distance they are at) or drive over them and vertical jig.
