Default 1st impression on the HOOK2!

I'm actually playing with a HOOK2 and I'm really impress with how easy it is to go through the Menu and the thing that bothers with reason was how slow was the zoom in-zoom out function and how slow the gps was on the previous HOOK and before that the Elite. Can't try it on the water, boat is winterize and we receive 6-7in. of snow last night and it's still snowing; I intent to run in the car to analyse how fast is the gps when moving. The zoom function is very fast so I'm pretty sure the gps will also be fast. Screen is very clear and crisp.
But from what I see now I think it's going to be perfect for the fisherman that want to have a good unit w/o all the bell and whistles.

Keep us posted. I might get one for my Jon Boat. I have "family" that are button shy.

Might be good for us that are technically challenged?! As for pricing, how are they? As compared to humminbird and Garmin?

    For the suggest retail prices:
    https://www.lowrance.com/lowrance/se...2/list/?page=2

There is choices of regular (2D) 200khz and CHIRP transducer, splitshot (2D Chirp & downscan), and tripleshot (2D,CHIRP,downscan and sidescan)
some units come w/o gps, some with gps w/o mapping and others with gps and mapping
Price range is from: $99 to $1499 for the 12" with tripleshot

Actually to much snow! I spoke with a guy that did some test last summer and he went up to 45mph and the gps and the map were moving at the same speed and he didn't have any problem.

I play a little more with it and honestly it is very easy and ready to use right off the box. The installation will be easier too with those new smaller plugs end.

They come w/o a sun cover.

I can’t believe the price point they’re going with. I never even considered structure/side scan before. I think I’ll be giving myself a late Christmas present now!

Is the hook 2 , the unit with no adjustments just supposed to be ready out of the box. Id like to hear more about it. I was really leaning towards a lowrance elite ti 12 , but always owned HBs

Ok. I went ahead and got the 5” screen with triple shot.

Everything is pretty simple to operate. The button location and layout is easy to reach/see/understand. I got a ram ball mount to make it easier to adjust as the factory base just wasn’t what I wanted. Navigating through the different screens and options is smooth. I can set it to have one, two, three, or four panels on the same screen. It’s hard to view more than two on a 5” screen, but having the option is cool.

Installation was fairly simple. The only complications I ran into were due to the fact that I ran all wiring through conduit raceways that had a few sharp turns. The plug ends that hook up to the head unit are small enough to work through the raceway. I like the new plugs better than the previous hook model’s screw in ends. The transducer is large. It sticks out about a foot off the transom. Unfortunately, there is no way to mount it on my bass Tracker and avoid having the motor’s lower unit block the side scan on one side. I have to tilt the motor way up to eliminate interference.

The cost of the whole thing is what got me to bite. It’s by no means as clear as the humminbird Mega units, but it’s a whole lot better than the little hook 4 DI unit I had before.

I’ll try and post some pictures when I get a chance.
