    Default Distinguishing crappie from bass

I'm getting a 999ci HD SI Combo Fish Finder . Was wondering if its possible to distinguish crappie from bass? Reason I want to take my bass fishing friend along but I want to fish for crappie.
I think it will work if I can tell the difference. any photos showing both?
    Thanks
    Fin

KNOWING THE FISH IS YOUR BEST INTERPRETATION,IN BRUSH OR UNDER DOCKS CRAPPIE WILL BE MOSTLY GROUP UP WHERE AS 2 OR 3 BASS SCATTERED IN PILE OR UNDER DOCK,ALSO IF YOU HAVE UNIT IN TUNE AND BASS ARE BIG THEY WILL BE A LITTLE LONGATED WHEREAS LOOK FOR A GROOP OF WHITE LITTLE DOTS,THE FINAL WAY IS WITH ROD AND BAIT,FREEZE UNIT WHILE YOU ARE FISHING FOR THEM AND WHEN YOU CATCH A FEW THEN LOOK AT YOUR FISH AND SIZE AND AT THE UNIT TO HELP YOU LATER

Thanks for the advice Genec. Its going to take some work. Last FF I had was a HB727 with side finding. I got pretty good.
The 999ci is enormous to that small non color unit.

Crappies generally school vertical (up and down in the water column) whereas bass will school horizontally in big packs similar to catfish. Sometimes schools of crappies can be 10 foot high, but only in about a 5 foot circle.. Think of their schools as pillars.

If you are looking on DI or SI into structure, the crappies will simply be smaller dots due to being thinner fish and casting a thinner shadow. Bass will look like torpedos or footballs whereas crappies will just be disc shaped marks.

Looks like crappies or bluegills. Also looks like som sort of structure, but hard to make out what it is. At first guess, as odd as it sounds, it looks like a piece of rope floating up off the bottom. It could also be a stick stuck in the bottom, i don't see anything laying on bottom though.
