    Unhappy HELP WITH 798C

I have a 798c that is not working properly. I have it hooked up to an I-Pilot trolling motor. If i run it in compact side scan mode the picture is always black. If I change it to any other color, except inverse it is black. When I change it to quad beam or the other beam option, I can see struture like a normal fish finder and also locate fish. Is this something i have setup wrong or is it the 798c? Any help would be appreciated or if someone can sent me the right direction. I am in the west tennessee area. Thanks!

If you have the 798 hooked to the Terrova's built in US2 xducer ... You will get no sonar except 2d images ...

The US2 xducer cannot do SI or DI ...so even tho the unit may be transmitting a SI or DI signal - there is no SI or DI piezo in the US2 to vibrate at that transmit signal ...

The 798 Transducer Select menu (under the Sonar tab) should be on "Dual Beam" for use with the Terrova US2 ...this shuts off the SI transmitters in the head unit and only allows the 83kHz/200kHz 2d transmit signals to get to the US2 ...

If you want SI and DI from your 798 ...you will need to mount a SI xducer to the bottom of the Terrova ...

Here is thread that shows how most of us with Terrovas have installed transducers to get SI or DI.

If you don't feel like doing that much work, here is a site for an alternate style mount

Mounted my old transducer on bottom of trolling motor this weekend. Hope that helps solve the problem! Second question: Is there a side imager that does work with the built in transducer?

Not yet, but I'm thinking one of our guys (Ricky!! Tom!!) could remove a US2 and epoxy in an SI or DI piezo....the only issue might be getting enough wires

The present issue is the "built in US2 xducer" (in the TM) is not capable of SI or DI (with any brand head unit) ...

With Johnson Outdoors owning HB and Minn Kota ... We can hope they are thinking down this road ...
