    Default What card to buy

Ok, so I want to invest in a card for my 899 bird. I started to do some research on available cards and was left mostly confused. I found the countour xd maps and they include about a 1/4th of the small lakes I frequently fish here in northeast indiana. I want to have Erie contours on whatever card I purchase. I looked at the lake map list for Lakemaster cards and didn't really see too many more lakes included of the small lakes I fish. I looked over at Navionics cards and it appears there are quite a few more lakes that i'm looking for. Now with navionics it appears to me they have about 4 different levels of cards, so I was really confused what brand of card or what level of detail to buy.
    Anyone have any suggestions.

From Wayne P on another forum ...:

Every new card includes a year of Freshest Data Updates. You can renew the Freshest Data Updates subscription after the year is ended for $99.

Navionics+ is customizable for what you want. You can delete, update, and add to the cards as many times as you want for a year. That includes all the maps on the preloaded version-some are doing that for units that have slow processors.

You can view the current maps on the Navionics website's Web App. You don't have to guess what the detail is for the locations you want. The Web App is updated every day "somewhere" so it is always current. You can keep up with any new data by doing a Freshest Data Update if you want.

You do not get the extra stuff that the Platinum version has like Satellite Overlay, 3D, and Photos.

Navionics maps are Nautical Charts-- all the products have the same map for a particular location.
Sonar Charts is user generated maps from uploaded sonar logs.

Navionics Hotmaps Premium cards have Nautical Charts and are regional issues.
Navionics Hotmaps Platinum cards have Nautical Charts, Satellite Overlay, 3D, Photos, and can have Sonar Charts downloaded and are regional issues.
Navionics+ is not regional and can have Nautical Charts and Sonar Charts of your choice.
Navionics Gold is mostly coastal, Great Lakes, major river areas

Looks like that may be the direction I go. Couple of questions.
I assume that with a navionics card it is not compatable with any i-link trolling motor stuff? I don't have one, just wandered.
Does the sonar charts provide a lot of value? If I understand correctly the sonar charts provide more like 1' contours.
Is the basic downloaded navionics maps and contours the same info that is given on the navionics charts on the phone app's?

iLink is only compatible with LakeMaster cards ...

Sonar Charts is users supplied data submitted to Navionics by users ... Most areas (especially in Ky lake/ Barkley lake) Sonar Charts is more accurate than the Navionics charts ...

The Navionics web app shows the exact detail that you would see on the Navionics card (unless you happen to get an older card that has been setting on a dealers shelf for a long time...then you would need to update the card to see the exact detail on the webapp) ...

Go to the webapp in the link below and zoom in on your area to see the detail ... Then click the icon at the lower left of the webapp to select the Sonar Charts to see the exact detail on the card ...

    Navionics Webapp

The webapp is also the same detail on the Navionics App for iPhone (if you have the maps up to date on iPhone) ...

I received the navionics update card this weekend. I ended up buying another fish finder that had a card in it already that I was able to use the navionics update with. What I didn't realize was that the update card was only good for 2 gigs of data as opposed to the 16 gb. So, I was kind disappointed to learn that but will make it work. I'm looking forward to going out tonight and seeing what this is all about.
