Thread: How much weight????

I think your using too much weight . Only time we worry about using alot of weight is if using large diameter Bamboo or if current is a problem .

You think 40 lbs would be plenty?

For the amount of tops you have per bucket I'd fill a few with 20, 30 and 40 lbs. Drop them to see how they sink. If not enough crete you can tie on a brick or 2 for extra weight.
When cutting the tops cut just below the last joint and cut that branch back a couple of inches to anchor in the crete.

I built some this week that are 10' tall & used 60lbs of Quickrete. I built allot in the past. Seems if they are taller than 10' they will eventually fall on their side.
I buy the Quickrete at Home Depot for $3.10 per bag. It sinks at a pretty good rate & stays where you put them out.

Add rocks first then pour in wet Quickcrete to keep cost down, Also some building supply stores sell busted bags at a discount .

Thanks for the input guys definitely will cut back on the Crete and give that a try on the next ones... here's my idea on the falling over problem not sure how long it will last but figured it was worth a shot

Place the handle up in the center of the boo. A hook on a rope will help lower them into place instead of dropping.
Wish I had some new looking buckets.
Save the lids, you can make another style condo with them.

love a good bamboo bucket. I think they get better as the leaves begin to fall off. crappie in my lake love the vertical structure, also consider putting in some horizontal structure around them on the bottom for winter time and when fish aren't suspending.
