Respect him and his boat, relax and have a good time.
I have been invited to go fishing with a more experienced fisherman. Is there any rules or accepted practices? I have seen guys invite each other on the forums but have no clue. We will go on his boat. I don't meet people well and DON'T want to mess this opportunity up. So any advice would be appreciated.

Howdy Robert,
I'm a Robert. Wait for him to tell you to get in the boat. Ask can you help launch the boat in anyway. Say you just tell me what to do and ill do it. Listen when he tells the way you are fishing and try to do it. Ask if you don't know. Most of all relax and enjoy.
If I ask someone to go with me it is because I see their interstate and I want to share what I know. Pass it on. Show them a good time. It makes an old timer feel good thinking we helped and made a great day on the water for someone.
"If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles." ~Doug Larson
If you have the opportunity to pay for any items like minnows, boat launch, lunch etc. then do it. Rather than ask if you can pay for something, (most folks would say no) say "let me get this" and most are grateful for it but would never ask.
Like others said, follow his lead and he will usually tell you if he wants you to do something like helping launch or take out.
And relax and enjoy his company.

Go and learn and have a great time! Oh, and try not to step in his seats
Enjoy seems to be the key. Remember what he says, and if your so blessed, do the same for someone else some day.

All good advice so far. I will add one thing that happened to me. My boat is over 25 yrs old but in very good shape. 2 of my guests smoked and had one burning while underway. I noticed later that i had small round burns in my previously intact carpet. Don't be this guy. Enjoy your trip, and learn a bunch.
