Ok we have a 1860 f and f boat that we commercial fished out of but we don’t do that anymore. So my question is can I turn it into a fishing boat or will I need to meet the requirements for pleasure craft first?

I think I would call F and F and ask them.....They could possibly re label or re certify it for you since they are the manufacturer.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

I would start by asking your local dmv or county clerk and tell them what you’ve got and ask them what needs to be done to make it legal, then see if what they tell you is worth your time/money.

My understanding is that commercial boats don’t have all of the foam floatation built into closed spaces. A recreational boat does. There may be some other differences to but if so, I’m not sure what they are. This is a safety measure. We have work boats that are commercial boats. They are bare bones for running nets, similar to commercial fishing. Really it is a safety issue. Better to be safe than sorry. I’m not sure how easy it would be to retrofit an older commercial boat but I’m sure it could be done.

Yes sir D10 that’s what this is no foam, no nav lights etc etc. I was wondering if I add foam and nav lights etc etc. I could fish out of it then. Or more would have to be done first. I’ve read till my eyes have crossed and still have not found anything. Thanks for the help guys.

Think I would start with the guy that would write the ticket. Find game warden office in your area. Go in and talk to head guy and get info in writing on what you can or can’t do. That is a good boat hate to see it not getting used. Think I’d pull floor and buy the two part foam you mix and pour in. Fill floor area and any where else you can with foam and install lights. If you can get the ok first. Personally I’d think if it’s safe enough to run nets, boxes and trot lines out of it sure should be safe enough to fish out of. That just my 2 cents. But sure not advocating you go out and get a ticket.
