Default Back to AR after 51 years...

I was born and raised in AR and have a lot of good memories of days fishing I just moved back the Fayetteville area from MO and am surprised I don't see much about the local lakes. Doesn't anybody fish Beaver anymore? My fondest memory of fishing in AR is one time my Daddy took me and my older brother in law to Bull Shoals on Easter weekend in 1958. We pulled into the Lead Hill dock about midnight and my bro in law took the stringer and tied it off to the outboard motor. When I asked him why he did that, he answered, "I don't want anybody to see how poorly we are doing." The stringer had 6 bass on it... 1, 7#15oz, 1, 6#9oz, 1, 6#4oz, 1 4#10oz smallmouth, + a couple of 3 lb fish to cap it off. But he was right... other boats there had multiple 8+ lb fish. In that one month there was something like 1,000 bass weighed in at the Lead Hill dock that was over 8 Lbs.

But this is a crappie board... and I love catching 'em in my 74th year. Right now my boat is out of commission for a backordered part.

By the way, why does Arkansas not allow an old fart like me to buy a lifetime license until 60 days after you get your new DL?

I'm from southern Arkansas and I can relate to your stories of days gone by. My mom had 5 older brothers who were avid fishermen and oh, the stories they could tell about the times they had. My dad would bring me around and when all the cousins and inlaws were there.......some kind of foolishness about to happen and fish were about to get caught! When I grew up and met my wife and became an inlaw to her family, I saw how her dad and his brothers' families all got together and pretty much did the same thing. Making memories and enjoying the outdoors with the company that you're with is what it's all about.

Those happy times, for me, were in the 70s thru 90s mostly, as my 5 uncles, father-in-law, and his brothers are all gone now. The memories live on and so do the stories. My dad is 77 and doesn't go like he used to, but some of my cousins, friends, and I still get together and fish, grill, camp, and retell the same old stories and they're just as fun as they were when they were really happening.

Glad you've returned to Hog Heaven and I don't know what to tell you about the lifetime license. Probably the result of the thinking of somebody smarter than us, but who was not an outdoor person himself. My father-in-law, Papa Dale Wilson, would have probably called him a "JassHonkey."

Welcome back. Not a lot of people on here from up that way but a couple that I'm sure would be glad to help you out with any questions you might have about the local lakes. Look forward to seeing your fish pictures.

To answer one of your questions, I fish Beaver as often as I can. Best place I've found so far in NWA for Crappie......of course I'm no Nimrod so my advice/endorsement doesn't carry the weight his does. Not sure about the Lifetime License deal.
