Default A few nice ones on Greeson last week

Went on my first guided crappie trip last week, on lake Greeson. I’ve fished with guides many times before but this was my first crappie trip. If you’ll remember, it was just above freezing last Wednesday morning. It was COLD on the water running across the lake.

the day started off pretty good, fishing tree tops with minnows produced a few small crappie right away. Jigs didn’t produce anything all day. Then the bite shut down and we didn’t catch another fish for hours.

Finally found some clear water (most of the lake was muddy) and starting catching a few NICE crappie. Theses big uns had their tuxedos on.

It was still up last week, and one of the gates at the dam was wide open.

Pretty fish. All that rain and then cold weather has sure made some lakes tough this year

Greeson always produces pretty crappie. Fishing has been tougher this spring for a lot of people I think, with the all rain and fluctuating temperatures.

Could be worse though I think. I'm in Kansas at the moment trying to Turkey hunt. The wind is currently about 40 mph, no joke. Was about the same yesterday afternoon and I saw some poor guy trying to crappie fish a top. It's was crazy. I guess they're biting to put up with that. But no more crazy than thinking you can shoot a Turkey with a bow in this wind I guess.

I always prefer Greeson the last two weeks of April......yep, starting about Wed 04/18. Hope all this new water didnt delay them a week or so . ??
