    Default Surprise Lake Maumelle Action

My favorite waters for Crappie are ones with plenty of cover. You know, Logs, stumps, brush, tops ect. and coffee stained type waters. Well... it was with great hesitancy I ventured out to the Old "Dead Sea" as it was once called, Lake Maumelle. I'm sick of the "crowd" at the usual water holes here of late around here. And there are tons of folks. So on this cool morning I ventured out with great confidence in my Ranger on big water.... But I wasn't so confident about being out of my element of Wood cover to fish. The lake is down a good three feet and dangerous back up the creek. But I stayed out in the Main lake and looked around for the underwater cover, or structure. You know...Road bed...bridge. I hunted for a while and had the Hummingbird set on 3d mode. I passed over what looked like a "Hay bale" and quickly hit split screen to show 2d screen and Fish tags !! BOOM!! in 30 Feet of water there they were...a Whole pack of medium size tags at 15 feet. I quickly threw out a marker...then a second marker. Cut the motor and grabbed a light Spin cast with Bobbie Garland in Char and red flake with redhead. 1/16" oz. Counted down with a smooth cast over and through school, and to my astonished surprise...BANG !!! They would hit it when I would hesitate the retrieve and let it drop. I Caught 14 and kept 10 gooduns. It was peaceful with few boats out there. Three Bald Eagles were diving near by and playing.

And a rather large Water bird was hanging out with me diving and getting His share.
He showed up when I started catching them.... go figure.

I haven’t been to Maumelle in a few weeks. Glad to hear about your success. I need to go and Crappie there because it is pretty close to the house. I did rather well there this summer with the Bream !

Very nice. Pretty fish and I'm sure getting to watch the eagles would of been enough to make the trip worth while.

Just my thoughts on the matter, but if you are sick of the crowds don't say where you caught your fish or the crowd may or could or will follow. Just my .02 worth. Congrats on the catch. A picture is worth a thousand words. People can dissect on the water photos to figure out locations, Photos of graphs with gps coordinates is another good way to share your fishing spots inadvertently. From the forums main page look at the number off people viewing the Arkansas page verses the people logged in and commenting. Look at the number of views verses comments on posts. Lurkers looking or fishing hot spots. This is nothing new. Bash me for saying this is ya'll want but it is all true. Hard to complain about the crowd if folks tell them where to go and then they show up.

    Lkconwayguru...

I understand your point of view. I respect your opinion and .02 cents worth. I know many will try to take advantage of information and milk out every last fish possible in locations and shared information that might be discussed. I have found these People that act that way and do this are usually not as successful as one may fear. Just like a thief, they want The easy hit and will not work for them like true Anglers. The last time I commented about Lake Maumelle, it wasn't overrun with these kind of folks looking to cash in on tips or info over the following days. Lake Maumelle is a very difficult Lake and takes much knowledge and experience way past what little I share to really get on the Crappie successfully and consistently.

Now Lake Conway is a different story...

This is the "crowd" I refer to. The ones that cut you off working down a bank of lillypads....or get right up on you....or the ones so dang worried about how and what you are doing as they constantly watch you, they cant really catch them...or blow right by your boat without slowing down sending a large wake into your boat. These A holes abound there...

I share just enough information and pictures to help and encourage others to fish. Maybe I've been doing this for 30 something years and want to pass on knowledge and experience to teach a younger generation. The joy of fishing is special and God has blessed us with enough fish to go around for many. I thank God for putting a great Man that once taught and showed me this sport. Crappie are in so many waters in the great State. I have caught them in places people wouldn't believe.

I figured that the "CROWD" you were referring to was Conway. I have lived on and fished Lake Conway for 35+ years. The crowds didn't used to be a problem there, it has happened in he last 7-10 years and only during the crappie run, and now continues to grow like wildfire. And what I mentioned in my first message is what contributed to this "CROWD" you refer to. I commend you for thinking of the future generations. I was just pointing out the obvious, the reasons that have caused said "CROWD. I knew when I wrote out that response I was opening myself up, But having witnessed the cause. I was compelled to weigh in on the situation. I want every one to catch fish, I just don't want them dipping their Jig in my livewell to catch them, HA HA HA! Don't get me wrong Dave, Teaching others is a awesome thing and by doing so that makes you a good person. But free info to the multitudes can cause a stampede in the process resulting in over crowding. Lake Conway being a prime example.

Got ya... it's a fine line of sharing with those who want to learn the love of CRAPPIE fishing....along with the equipment and technic. It's just a dang shame for the creepers and folks out for selfish gain and the pillage of crappie waters to milk it out to stuff freezer. I will always post with an encouraging angle and info to a point.

One day we will be gone. Life is short... Gods Word teaches we are but a morning mist and burn off by afternoon and are gone. I want the next Steward's of the waters to carry on this special thing we do.... the Thump of that Jig !!!
