I have fished Cortez one afternoon. It gave us a pretty good beating, but a person could probably learn it. We caught a few fish on the north side, not far from the ramp on the west end. This was a few years ago and not current information.
Anybody ever fish it?

thought the lakes at the village could only be used by land/homeowners or possibly by a guest (kind of like the golf courses). if that is incorrect, let me know what i have to do to get on them.

I have not fished Cortez yet, but I have fished Desoto, Balboa, Coronado and Grenada and the best so far was Desoto. I must say you have to do your homework finding brush piles and bamboo cribs and also have down and side imaging. The best lake I have fished outside the village is lake Nimrod. This cooler is from DesotoThese two pics are from Nimrod.

There are some real nice rentals in HSV. Some you can rent at a bargain. If you are renting, you can purchase a day use pass so you can use the lakes. I've heard Desoto is a good one to fish, but never tried there.

I know they should be good fishing . Never tried them but heard good stories of Bream , Bass , and Catfish . i know some that catch a few Crappie there too .
Afraid it will take Nimrod a year or two to recover from the drawdown this time . It really got hammered this summer . Pesce I may have to visit you in the village on your next trip down to Arkansas , never saw those lakes .
These big cats were caught on lake Coronado. Darwin likes to fish for cats, he lives by Desoto marina.

Village lakes can best be characterized as clear water, lacking structure and habitat, and overpopulated with green carp (which are small given the population problem). Crappie fishing is tough, but average size is very good. I fish all the lakes several times a month, and have never caught more than a handful or two at a time but enough to keep the freezer stocked. Due to the lack of cover and forage, I think the green carp take way too much of the new fry to allow a good crappie crop. Cortez has been the dead sea the last year, but was one of the better lakes a couple of years ago. Good for catfish and bream, but rumor has it that they taste like dogfood because everybody feeds them.

I had a lot of there for a bit. Long time ago. Did fair. I think the best lake over there is the one that no gas motors aloud.
Also, I think they are now selling memberships to anyone. I know a outsider can get in on the deer hunting in there.
