I've never night fished for crappie, but with the females coming off the beds hungry, now may be a great time to do it with lights. I think normally people do it after it warms a little more.
When I was young I remember my dad taking me crappie fishing at night... I remember how fun it was and would like to do it again. What's the best time of year, ill be fishing Ouachita so it's a deep clear lake. Would now be a good time of year?

I read an article recently, somewhere, that was talking about how much of a positive impact LED lights have had on night fishing. The new lights are very battery efficient and apparently come in a better array of colors.
tony I been told the same about LED take no watts. I like to have a good set

I'm not a night fisherman, but I was reading a thread on the Tennessee boards where a guy consistantly fishes at night. He's catching crappie now. His reason for fishing at night is due to job, kids playing ball, etc.
I'm sure it is all about location. If you are where the fish are, you should catch some.
I spend a lot of time on the lake at night, running trotlines and stuff... I love being out there at night, it's quiet and typically no wind. You get to see a lot more wildlife too, last weekend I came across an armadillo swimming across the channel.... Shortly after I was watching a beaver and noticed something fluttering around on the water as I got closer I realized it was a bat.. Guess he made a crash landing.
Hah, he crawled up on a rock and found a little hole... I didn't know what kind of creature he was at first.... They look pretty odd while swimming...
You mean, like, after 8:30 p.m.???
really?
Bwwahhhaaaaaaa. Good one!
Yea buckrub.... We crappie fished from An hour or so after dark well into the night and did pretty good.
