Fished with Roy (Texasflatsfisherman) for a hour or so...wind was bad, but I found a calm spot....we sure didn't set the world on fire but we couldn't fish in the areas we wanted.
Good news is that Roy and I both saw fresh waters lobsters already?? THEM CRAWS WERE CRAZY....
Bad news is the water temp dropped back to 39 and 40 degrees earlier this morning...one of my friends called and reported he froze in the boat and left by 10.

COE has the lake level lower than normal??? I guess hurricanes and coastal flooding is imminent, even though no heavy rain is forecast....no creek spawns again this year!
But, as you can see the water is clear and looks good....

    Default windy CJ

    Hey all,
Fished Saturday afternoon, the ice out "feeding frenzy" was overwhelming and the Pepe laphue as worse. I got down on the boat docks and got seasick. Severl boats out, looked for Darth Vader, since I was his kind of WX. scouty had him working on the third rock from the sun I bet. Saw a dead bass at the handicap dock.. hate this spot my typing won't work half the time, I spend more time correcting than I do tying can't find PM's. Heat Pump went out, got a good Tracker for sale. Don't PM me, call on the phone..

If it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all .....

Hello all.... I came across your thread on the "other" forum, and am glad I could find you again. I used to tune in before to see what was happening on CJ. I am always reluctant to post anything due to the fact that there's always one(or more) that can send a thread to the ditch. I fish CJ about 70% of my time with the other 30% at CC. I have learned from many of your posts on temps, colors, and baits. I appreciate all that has been offered. I only use artificial and typically only jig and slow troll. After 4 years, I'm still yet to hold my first eye at CJ, however, crappie seem to work pretty good for my boat. The lake is plentiful, but not without lessons in futility and humility. Last year I only got to the lake a few times. I work nights, have 4 young active children and remodeled an old boat. I converted a 1978 Lund VFR-15 fish/ski to a wide open fishing boat. Removed the glass, consoles, and anything else that restricted space. Turned her into a wide open tiller with a newer four stroke 50. If you see a blue/silver Lund tiller feel free to introduce yourself. Also, I'll never ask for any info on drops or coordinates. That lake is a puzzle that I'm trying to piece together. Hope to meet a few of you down the road. Have a good season!

Welcome Yepper....we're here to help....keep asking questions and you'll figure the puzzle out.
Temps and patterns give you the main keys, then when you find them, you gotta find a way to get fish with full bellies to bite!
    Good Fishing!

    Good Fishing!
Plus, IMHO....anyone who has the smarts, and desire, to take the time to renovate a boat, so they can fish, surely will put the same effort into their fishing!
And trust me, I'm still learning almost every time I go out!

Some of my unanswered questions are...I can't figure out how the shad have adapted to the cold, they are suppose to die at temps of 40 degrees, then it changed to quick changes in temps, now who knows??
Why are craws out so early, are they adapting to cold also, they use to hibernate??
And where do all the BIG Fish go in the Winter....cause the "Ice Boys" had the main areas covered daily, and couldn't get/find Big Fish...so I guess their out in the Middle of the South end???

I haven't seen a craw yet. The LMR is close my house and still up pretty high. I know the river system is totally different than a lake but some of the same theories apply. Shad survive in cold temps with moderate current. But it would have to be deep moderate current. As far as the ice... Nope not me....always feared walking on ice where in the summer my Lowrance said it was 20'+. I'll sit at home and read about it. LOL

Yepper, hello and at the risk of keeping you from spending many fruitless days in search of the elusive "tooth fairy" at CJ Brown, allow me to say that approx. 150` due N of the furthest tip of the Marina`s S breakwater there is a small sharp "hump" that origionally was going to be the ending point of the same S breakwater in 1980 when the Marina was built, but the COE ran out of money and the S breakwater was never completed as designed. That `hump` lays in approx. 8-9 fow at summer pool and about dusk and dawn has been known to produce limits of walleye; particularly with a stiff Westerly or more common SWerly wind. It doesn`t always have `eyes on it, but when it does...worm harnesses produce well, but personally use a small leech on a 1/16th orange "glo" jig tapping the bottom while double bow anchored about 20` off it; have hauled in more than a couple of smallies and cats and crappie from there too. DO keep in mind when the lake is busy Watercraft will ask you to MOVE from there; trolling it IS an option. Good luck, sir and please POST your `results`, ok ?
