I only run 6 poles. A 12,10,8 off each side of the boat. I usually get one or two tangles per trip. Can't make sharp turns.
How many baits can you guys run at a time without a major hastle? I have a buddy who says he can run twelve, I'd have to see it to believe it.

Run is the operative word here. I saw two guys pushing six, each with a two oz weight off the front, and pulling six off the back and tore the crappie up last weekend at Horseshoe. It was very impressive but he was a six year crankbaiter, not a beginner.

Usually four to six poles If they are really biting that is all you want to handle. You could run more if you are weighting them down or on a pontoon. There are some folks that push them on the front with their spiderrig poles.

Keep your line tight !
I have a 20' pontoon that I use to pull 8 poles. A 20'er 14'er and 8'er off each side and 2 8'er off the back. Like someone else said if you make a too sharp of a turn you will get some tangles. If I and by myself and the bite is pretty good I just use 4.

I usually run 6. 12 COULD be done, but it would take some work, and you would have a definate system to do it. I don't think it would easy though...
Patrick, my wifes grandpa ran crankbaits at Enid for 40 years. He used a lead core line with a 20lb mono leader. Can you still buy lead core line? He was able to run slower and not have as much line out.
On a party barge we push 6 20 ft cane poles with an 8oz weight and pull 4 off back of the boat.

Fillet, 6 is about the most I wanna mess with personally, but have
done ok with 8. Shoot, most of the time now if I'm by myself, I won't
put out over 4.
Torch, you can still get it, I got a spool from Cabela's awhile back, and
BPS has it too. It's just not listed in all their catalogs.
I ain't spent a lot of time on it yet, still trying to get it figured out.

Hey whats ya'lls favorite crankbait color? At Enid I like a Black and Chart. and a Blue and Chart. At Sardis I like to have some red and pink. At Grenada I have caught them on all colors.

filet, 6 is about right, without having headaches. last year at sardis, when we had a c.c "tourney", we used 8 without too much problems. but, overall, i think 6 is just about right.
