I use both.
I can leave plastics in their factory packages with a soft side better than a tackle box but you can not beat the ruggedness and weather resistance of the dedicated tackle boxes over a soft side.
Just wandering what you guys haul your tackle in and why you would prefer one over the other.
I use both.

I purchased 4 hard boxes that hold 5 plastic boxes for saltwater fishing because the soft sides. Since getting back to fishing for crappie and learning from crappie.com, I have since gone to the hard boxes. The clear plastic boxes are marked as to type of fishing - jig sizes, dock jigs, grubs, etc. Pull one out and I am in business. The boxes are stored on edge and seem not to leak in the rain. No corroding zippers. I am out of state right now, but when I get back to FL next week, I will post picture to show you want I mean.

I use both, Tackle box works great in my own boat but I use my softside to put the 5 divider boxes in when I go with others or bank fishing.
I use a large soft side that holds 8 -- 24 compartment see through boxes.

I'm using a large hard style now that holds several clear boxes.
