Super time to fish, Don't know why more people don't fish the fall and winter months. If the wind will alow or the lake isn't froze over you can catch fish year around
No bugs, Less boats, Wind is usually calm November and wind is major pain on the foot.

Snakes stay home watching football. GOOOOOD
You are not wasting your time, unless of course you dont have the ability to spider rig, that will greatly diminish your chances of catching some a good quantity of fish, although its certainly possible to catch them other ways. I generally start back up fishing on a regular basis in October, or whenever we get that first cold spell that really breaks us out of summertime heat. Good luck!
I don't have much experience fishing what I'd call a "shallow" lake like Reelfoot in the fall...what depths do you usually find the fish when the weather starts cooling off in October...
AU,
Generally we like to start looking in the 3-5' range when the weather breaks and the water temps start to fall. If you get a big cold snap, the fish will usually head to the dying pad beds for they will be warmer due to the decomposition.

I usually can catch all you want in 10 foot or deeper fishing around 6 foot deep. Not much water over 10 foot so it narrows down.
As WTC said you will have a lot better luck trolling.

Thanks for all the information... Maybe I will see you on the lake in November.
