Finally fished yesterday, Wilson Lake
Fished all day yesterday. Had 17 keepers, 3 really good fish.
I started the day trying out one of my deep holes in the main lake. To my surprise, the fish were not there. This time last year I found them on thick brush in 40 feet. Couldn't buy a bite yesterday. The main lake surface temp was 43 degrees that morning.
About 9:30 I moved into the creeks. The water temp was 5 degrees warmer. Caught my first few fish in 26 feet. The first was a 15.5 inch fish. She was a big chunky Wilson lake fish. Caught a few more in the same area fishing the channel and ledges in 19-26 feet.
About 11:00 I stopped catching fish. The sun was out and it was quite windy. I continued in some different areas and finally moved to an area out of the wind around 3:30. I pulled up to a creek channel 21 feet deep. I noticed the water temp was an amazing 53 degrees. Alot warmer out of the wind. I instantly started catching fish. I caught 5 or 6 keepers in about 15 minutes. Then, just like before, they slowed down. I moved out of the middle of the channel and worked the edges. I caught several more right on the drop and on the ledge around the brush.
The fish must have moved alot yesterday. I couldn't tell if I was in schools of fish, or just catching them as they turned on. I didn't notice any real change in weather, except I did notice alittle cloudy and hazy conditions changing when I found fish.
I caught every fish on a double minnow rig with a one ounce weight. I didn't get a strike on a hair jig or tubes. Fishing really slow.
On a darker note, I kicked my freaking hand held GPS into the water. I am choked up just writing this post.
