That looks nice. I use a Fra-bil measuring tool, it is sort of like that. I have lost one before when I found out the hard way it doesn't float, so now I hook a bobber though the hole to keep that from happening again.
There's a new product that just hit the market that makes it safe and simple to check the legal length of your Crappie or other panfish.
The Grip 'N Check keeps fish from flopping around (by pressing Number 3 in the above image) while your trying to measure them. Which reduces the chances of getting poked by one of the fishes fins. A positive additude may not fix all of your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worthwhile.

I keep this in my tackle box. It has a stop to push the head of the fish against to get an accurate measurement.
