Default I've been seeing fish in the Sammamish river.

I jog along the trail in Redmond every morning and if the sun is right I can see some nice size fish in deeper holes around eddies and in places with gravel bottoms. I can't tell what kind of fish they are though. Anybody got any ideas what would be in the river this time of the year? Smallmouth or rainbows maybe?

were they near the surface? i would guess cutthroat. the only way to find out for sure is to catch one! just take a rod with you on your jog

I got a good look at them on a walkover bridge behind that huge Overlake Cristian Church off Willows Road in Redmond. They're down there in a gravel bed by the dozens. Some nice size fish too. They're in moving water so they're also fighting the current but they're staying pretty much in one place. They have a dark stripe running down their side but I'll be damn if I can figure out what they are.

sounds like the water is very clear or possibly low? i always thought that i remembered the slough as being somewhat murky, maybe that was just after a rain

My guess is that they're spawning suckers. They get orange or black stripes down their sides during the spawn. But, there is only one way to find out....:D

I got a good look at them yesterday from the bridge. They're thick across the back and are good size fish (2-3 lbs). They're not bass or trout. I'm not familiar with a sucker. What is it?
