What size chain should I use for slowing my boat for spider rigging in the wind? I have a 15' aluminum boat. Also what length of chain and rope should I use?
Thanks!

A lot like the old Wannabe... except with fewer bad words. And Karate chop action. But, yes, still purtier than you.
I have 2, 3 ft sections of 5/8 chain on 50 ft ropes....If the wind pushes me faster than I want with that much rope and 2 chains Chances are it's about time to leave anyway....
I will admit the drift socks would be a better option in deeper water, if there is nothing to get hung up on.....Chains rarely hang anything......
I heard some places draggin chains was illegal?

I use 1/2 in. 5 ft on a Tr186 and it works great. The more rope you let out the more drag. Lift the chain and decrease the drag. I recommend a plated chain, and dont let it rust . Get you a 5 ft section of 3/8 and give it a try. If that is not enough add another section. Any kind of rope will work. I like 3/8 nylon , it is easier to handle. A chain will not destroy any more cover than an anchor.
I use a piece of 4" PVC 12" long add lead for how much weight (mine weights 20lbs) you need. Then cap both ends with an eye bold in one end. Tie the rope to this.
Works great.

OK...let me get this straight.....you're spider riggin along, draggin a chain and you come to a brush pile.....
So you fish the brush pile a few minutes and then continue on...draggin the chain right thru the brush?
