Abu Garcia Diplomat Extreme 62 UL help need
I recently acquired this rod and while it’s a beautiful rod with a unique handle and reel seat, I have see an issue with it.
Used it for the first time today and noticed that the reel (MGX Theta 1000) did not fit snug. There’s some play. Do any owners of this rod have the same issue? If yes, what did you do to address it? I might need to add some buffer for a tighter fit but would appreciate your ideas about a potential solution.
Rod is a joy to fish with!

Not this rod but others I’ve had have shared this issue. I’ve cut a cardboard piece to go under the foot and raise it up some. Plastic also works as does other materials. I’ve seen tape used but it left the glue behind or took the label off of the foot when it was removed.

Thanks Randy. Vanquish 1000, Daiwa reels, and even the Zenon fit snug. I was hoping to use MGX Theta more often but I might be better off using a reel that doesn’t fit loose.Originally Posted by Alphahawk

Thanks, Randy. Other 1000 size reels fit well. But I was hoping to match this rod with the MGX Theta. I think I’ll be better off using Zenon with it.

I really like the reel seat/handle set up. Looks comfy. Have you sealed the cork?

I have not. I ought to do it over the weekend. The rod will rest today because the plan of action today is trout
