Me and ole Charles used to take a boat and fish the bay at night when the ole ladies went to bed. We were in cotton bayou at orange beach. Would take a bait tank and buy live shrimp. There were under water lights and we would load the boat with specked trout and red fish. We had a blast doing that. When we took out we would go to the car wash and spray down the boat and trailer real good. Then took a set of muffs to run the motor on to flush the motor idling for about 5 minutes.

OK you can catch about all the Mangrove or black snapper as the locals call them out on either side East Pass Jetties. The west Jetties are the best as few people have the desire to walk out on them they are so long. Fish for them about half way out the jetty anywhere almost to the end. The secret is where you anchor. You will want to anchor up just far enough off the Jetty so that you can cast to the edge of the rocks which the jetties are made of. The rocks only go so far then its all sand you want to get your bait on the rock/ sand edge . To rig up I use a #2 small eagle claw circle hook tie it on about 12 to 18 inches of 17 lb leader and tie the other end to a # 10 barrel swivel .THen take a 1 oz egg lead and put it on your main line before you tie the barrel swivel to it, to be attached to what ever line you are using on a medium sized spinning reel. I use this heavy line because a lot of the time the snapper will run you in the rocks and the barnacles are sharp ALSO dont be surprised when you set the hook into a red fish that can be anywhere from 4 lbs on up to 25 or more lbs as they run the edge of the Jetties as well. OK Bait is the next big thing........it needs to be live . If you can find Mud or bull minnows get them or if you know how to cast a bait net there are pods of minnows ll over Chocthwachee bay. That time of Summer the bait stores will probably only have live shrimp which is ok but everything eats them especially Pin fish which are the blue gill of the jetties . Hook the Shrimp side ways thru the edge of the horn on its head to keep it alive .When you catch a pin fish rig up a rod with a bigger circle hook and throw it out on the side away from the jetties as Bull red fish love to eat them..... set your rod so he can pull drag when it hits. one other place to fish besides the jetties is out in front of the Coast guard station channel located on the side opposite the Jetties. here you can catch speckled trout and redfish. you can use minnow imitating lures or the live bait as well for them. Also get a tide chart and see when high tide will be because if the tides running out or coming in real hard its hard to keep your bait on the bottom hope this helps and i havent confused you!!

Oh one more thing you can only keep 5 black snapper per person and they must be 10 inches. Also youcan only keep one redfish per person and it has to be between 18 and 27 inches and you will need a Florida salt water licsense which they sell by the week or year
Pompano off the beach
Maybe they will bite this one……
