Teacher always said only stupid question is the one that you don’t ask! Just my I do better at almost dark with darker colors mostly! But sometimes they will hit anything.i am one of those that have more baits than my wife has shoes but it’s hard for me to try baits that I don’t have confidence in. I’m trying to convince myself to quit buying so many baits and stick to the 5-6 colors that’s always produced but that’s hard to do .

Dark colors at dusk and night, especially in muddy water. It should allow the fish to see the contrast and/or shadow or outline of the bait. Daytime and especially in clear water use light colors, smaller baits and lighter line. I started casting a couple months ago with 1" sliders on 1/32oz jig heads with 4 pound line when in clear water. My numbers of hits and fish caught per cast has doubled.

Dumb Crappie don't grow to 15 inches without being caught. The hits near dark is probably because the Crappie can't see the bait, your fishing line or an angler as easily.

Dark colors when light visibility is low.

We know dark colors are the best at night but I've caught lot of fish on the color yellow at night time.
