Thread: Herring made me sick

I agree on the watching part. Sometimes we get so caught up in the catch we forget the real reason for getting out. Went to the panhandle this last weekend and did some pier fishing Did more watching of the wildlife than catching... and I love to catch the mackerels

I watch an Eagle today catch what I think was a Bass about a pound and a half before I landed my first fish.

I wasn't mad, I'd use the word impressed, LOL!!

Herons are part of the food chain. I enjoy watching the ospreys and eagles fish. They are serious. However, over the last several years we have been invaded by cormorants. These are fish eating birds and are a nuisance. I never saw one in this part of the country for most of my life. Wish we could get rid of them but I'm sure they are protected. We also have plenty of pelicans

Blue Heron while fish eaters aren't the ones that need to be removed and make pretty good pets in the winter if you give them a shad or yellow stripe once in a while , while bank /bridge fishing (grin) ,its the Cormorants that I would like to see gone, they herd the fish up into coves and with hundreds of birds very few fish get away. They hang at the bridges and wipe the bait as well as the game fish too. They are starting to try and deal with them finally on the big G after they have killed the vegetation on a lot of the islands from their roosting . Also the Blue herons are still protected I think although they should be off the endangered list by now.

I could have a big time shooting cormorants if it was legal.

Lol.im not sure what that is.now I would love to see an eagle taking a fish.that would be awesome.

Many of the herons learn to hang out around the bridges when crappie fishermen are there. They know that a lot of small stripe get thrown back into the water, usually wounded and easy pickings.

Yeah - I wondered why you were eating bait! Lol. Cormorants are the ones that make me sick. We call them water Turkeys. During the winter a 100 will land in my lake 50 up 50 diving then switch. All the ones that come up have a fish in their mouth. Swallow, then back down again! I just pray it's shad. I watched a flock one morning that probably ate a 1000 fish in 5 minutes!
