"Whatever you do, don't drop that rod in the water, OK? Allright - now cast right THERE. Count to two-Mississippi and reel slow ..." Thump! Zizzzzzzz. Took dear daughter fishing. She is a successful young urban professional; hasn't fished since she was in grade school. I handed her my Limber Tip/Presso rigged with a trout magnet (boy did they...

I found these fish late yesterday afternoon and decided to see if they were there today. My personal best redear at 2lbs7oz and various fish at 1lb13oz and 1lb14oz. An epic day that will be very hard for me to top. My wife caught several of these fish and loved it.

Yes I was. Dropped in about 8 after breakfast with my queen. I was looking for gills but was hoping for anything dumb enough to hit my jig. I found lots of players today. First, I found gills, about 15 or em. Then I ran out of bank and I played with some Crappie on a deep tree. I got burned out on them and didn’t want to give up my find so I moved...

Josiah and myself did a tourney with the Richmond Crappie Club today and took a 3rd place win. 7 fish 7.40 lb bag weight. While this may not seem too impressive, consider this: 19 boats, 17 of which had foward facing sonar (livescope, mega imaging). I did not. Some really good fishermen coming from as far as nc to attend. Winning bag was 8.31. 2nd...

I hadn't gotten out in over a week but since we finally got some rain I went to my low river spot to see if the river was rising from the rain. River is up a foot from last visit and still rising. Started with 1/16 wedge tail fox jig under a float but no takers so removed the float. Couple minutes later I get whacked by a white bass about 2#. Next...

Hard to beat simple fishing and it doesn’t get much simpler then a hook with a red wiggler. Started our fishing adventure after lunch this afternoon at our favorite local park that includes two managed ponds and a creek with a deep enough pool to get a bite. The creek was our first stop today where we managed a few small but nicely colored sunfish...

Got a call from 870 this morning asking if I had any interest in joining him for an impromptu fishing trip today. Weather was iffy here at home (it would soon clear and be a nice day)but I said yes anyway and headed his way. And what a trip it turned out to be! After a few last minute adjustments, (and we almost chose not to bring the cooler!) we...

It's really early for the redear to be up shallow. I caught this toad tonight in yellow mustard flowers here on Lake Barkley. It was 2lb2oz. What a special Easter Sunday! The fish had a length of 12 3/8 inches, a girth of an eye popping 14 inches and a weight of 2.2lbs. I cleaned the fish tonight and it was a boss male shellcracker...not a...

It's been a while since I've posted, anybody still lurking around here? I've been doing my part to try and reduce the Crappie population in Lake Conway before it dries up and all the fish rot. The lake still has lots of fish but the size is WAY down from previous years. Yesterday was decent despite the wind. 52 Crappie and 6 Bass (not pictured?,)...

When the Oak blooms are on the water I usually find fish in 10-13’ of water. That held true today. Didn’t see as many fish today compared to Monday. Catch rate was about half as much also. Did manage some good ones. It’s was nice not having to weed thru the small fish. The wind was way better today and the rain was light. The sun popped out and...
