    Default Yellow Bass

Wife and I caught a bunch of little yellow bass the other day. Iv never caught any before. Are they edible or worth keeping to clean?

To me they are delicious. The problem is getting on some large ones.

I caught a 2 pound plus yellow/white and it turned into a 3x world record for several years.

I've heard they are ... so long as you cut off the red meat on the outside of the fillet. Supposedly takes the "strong fishy taste" out of the meat, when the red meat is removed.

In this area yellow perch are commonly called "coontails". If you catch them big enough to filet, they are incredible table fare. They are very similar to and just as good as walleye. There's no red meat in them like white bass or stripers. I caught 2 small ones this afternoon along with 16 keeper White bass at Lake James.

I would rank yellow bass right between road killed possum and buzzards on my list of preferred foods.

We must be talking about two different species. Yellow PERCH are awesome.
I just looked up yellow bass and they are akin to white bass and stripers (Morone family). That said, i'm sure they are strong if the red meat isn't removed.
Sorry for confusing them with the perch.

I filet them and put them in with the crappie... No one complains when they eat them here...
