I know the thread is a little old, but I pull two umbrella rigs and then two deep divers when trolling. I usually have one that is like a deep diving long plug and one that just looks like a regular bass deep diver. The best colors seem to be silver with blue or black backs. If they are biting, I usually get them on the umbrellas, but will occasionally pick up one on the plugs.

Mark, you need to check with Don (Sinkermaker). At our outing last Friday he trolled with a flasher ahead of jigs and did pretty good. His rigs looked like what we used trolling for Salmon in Oregon. The Striper is a salt water fish so it makes sense that those tactics would work here as well.
I don't have a clue how it rigged them but he will tell you, heck, he's always looking for someone to join him, you could just grab a seat in his boat and get a first hand lesson.

Deep Diving Redfins, Storm Thundersticks, Wally Stingers... All get the job done!

The Redfin and the Hellbender both float back up if you stop. The others will sink. So, you have to deal with that, if you stop the boat to fight a fish on another line... That dropper on the Hellbender will catch a lot of fish, if you have smaller ones. Bigger fish require a stouter jig and hook.

Day time trolling most any deep diving lure will catch them or using lead core line to get lure down to the 35 foot level....night time you need a large lure that makes a lot of noise in its action....we use the 10 inch grandmaw lure developed for the great lakes region...trolling at 2.5 mph at 35 to 60 feet deep....it is the best at night that we have found.
