The hybrid's are very funny. One min. can mean no bite to an explosive bite. I have caught several hybrid on 10 to 12in musky bait's. So no a 9in bait is not to big but in my past a 4 to a 6in fluke or a chautrese colored jerk bait works the best.

That's good to know, as I have seen striper fishermen use a small jig trailing a diving lure all the way up to very large lures. My boat won't troll slow enough to use a lure with much action, causing it to twist, but the swim shad type lures follow along real well. If I don't have a way to discourage those whites, that's all I'll catch. I have a downrigger installed if there is a need to get below the whites while trolling. I may even try some good sized bluegill and drift fish. Texas Parks and Wildlife keeps the lake stocked with hybrids, so the fish are there - now I just have to learn to catch them.
