    Default American Lake

I plan to make a trip or two there this spring or summer.
Looking for any advice on where to fish for yellow perch mainly but I will take anything that bites.
Thanks CajunChris1 thanked you for this post

I always put in at the city launch on the north side. Straight out from the launch, between 20-30' of water, there are usually schools of perch. There's perch both sides of the launch at the same depth, from Picnic Point (shallow) to the west, and the big willow tree to the east (you can see it on Google Maps).

My method is to start by trolling a bottom bouncer walleye setup with crawlers on the bottom until I locate a school with bigger fish, then hit spot lock (or anchor) and dropshot with small jigs and a bit of worm. Once you get a small sacrificial perch, use a small bit of perch meat with the skin on as bait.

If you're stuck on land, fan cast dropshot jigs with worms from the end of the pier until you locate a school. Then fill yer bucket.

Hope this helps. I used to fish it lots, but now hit Lake WA since the perch are bigger and it's closer to my home north of Seattle.

    Good luck!

I wish it wasn't such a long trip or I'd come up and fish Lake WA, drop a few crawdad pots while I was there. The thought of bigger perch has me drooling. What size were the larger perch in American Lake? and how much bigger are they in Lake WA?

Thanks for the info! I have picnic park marked and American lake park, haven't found the willow yet.

On Google Maps switch to satellite view. The willow is about 100 yards to the right (east) of the park launch. Big round tree sticking out over the water.

At American a nice perch is 9 1/2", with lots of smaller ones. At Lake WA I keep nothing under 10" and limit what I keep to about 15 fish. The largest I caught last year was a measured 13". My plans for this year will be to fish for crappie as much as possible, and then fill the livewell with perch for eating.

This is the only time I will ever wish I lived up there. Biggest perch I have caught locally is 5 inches with most in the 2-3 inch range. Don't know how they got the #6 hook in their mouths.

Maybe someday we will meet up and you can show me what real panfish catching is all about.
