Default James river crappie and other cool stuff!

Shoulder healed up enough that fishing is good therapy now. So I’ve been working it. Hit a couple shallow spots that hold fish pretty good until water gets to hot.

They are really hungry right now. Probably caught 100 in there days. Almost all over 11”. Biggest was a couple 14.5”. All returned immediately to the water to grow.

BassMasters were on the James last week. 225 boats. VA DWR staff on site helping out and collecting research on the tagged bass from the Chick river that get caught and brought back to Richmond. They work hard and are super nice, and a great resource of info for young and old. Thanks DWR.

And on a family note. My told me that my 17 year old daughter told her she gave a friend some advice and she was embarrassed because “I heard myself and I sounded like dad”. How about that. I pray she heard a whole bunch of the stuff over the years. Btw, the boy is doing well. Second year of college down and working for electrical company for summer again. They have a job fir him when he is done.

Last pic posted twice. That is Shawn. My brother in law married to my little sister. He’s my go to fishing buddy. He is just about recovered from a fight with throat cancer. The chemo and radiation got him pretty bad. He’s BACK! Getting stronger, back to work and he wore some crappie out today. Jigs or minnows, he was on a roll!

Had a great day Shawn. You are a crappie catching machine!

Left on thing out..............Our daughter is taking EMT classes in school, as her electives. She has been running with the Petersburg Rescue Squad. Some really good life experiences. 2 saturdays ago, she pulled a 12 hour shift with them. Lots of calls. She got to see them save a guy from a drug overdoes early in the day. Using NARCAN. Just before her quitting time, they got another call to an extended stay, sketchy hotel. Long story short, she got to CPR on a middle aged women who they could not bring back. The death shook her up a bit as it was a first. Powerful. Very powerful. Just for life experience, but also good to see that sometimes a bad choice can cost you everything. Again, I hope she always remembers.

You guys have heard me brag on some teachers over the years. The news won't tell you the good (that makes me angry). But, last week, her EMT teacher did an afternoon exercise to show they teenagers what it's like to get old, and hopefully have some compassion for the older folks around them. He had every student put 2 marbles in each shoe and lace back up, to show what it's like when your feet hurt with every step. They put on oversized latex gloves and went thru what should be simple tasks, to show what it's like when your fingers just don't work like they use too. While doing the tasks, they wore safetly glasses with one side covered in tape with just a small hole to see thru, to show loss of perifial vision, and the other eye had scotch tape in the center to make it blurry like a catarac. And he gave them each a straw to breath thru and went for a walk. She came home and said "I don't think I want to get old". HA, good luck, comes with the territory! She understand more now, why that older person in front of her in line at Walmart, takes a little longer, and why grandpa makes noise getting out of the chair, and why grandma walks so slow and should really be using her cane.

Cool stuff. There is still a lot of good out there. I beg my parents to turn off the all-day, bad news and watch Gunsmoke. News loves to tell us we are all doomed. We aren't. Be decent, go to work, get a life for yourself. Unlimited oppourtunity for these young kids, if they will just stay out of trouble.

Have a great week guys and gals.

I love being reminded what a great Dad Dayton is. Not surprising to hear how good his kids are doing.
