Default I haven't been fishing but.................

.....been busy with regular life stuff. I did hook up to the boat and went to the river yesterday. I know...I know. Labor day weekend. There was no place to park so back home I went. Stopped by mom and dad's and they were feeling well enough to be up and out. So I got them in the truck and spent the day running around the countryside.

As you can see, my dad and I are built just alike.

Saturday, my wife and I road down to Rudee Inlet to see what was happening. Virginia Beach was busy. Lots of people fishing from the bank of the inlet. Didn't see any fish being caught.

But..............The real reason for this post is below. Today is the first day back for school. Virtual School. My county has 60,000+ kids trying to get connected today. I know the media will be all over the connectivity issues we are going to have today. But, if you have one minute to spare, I invite you to see my daughters' schools morning announcements. you are free to watch minutes 2-5 if you would like a taste of how complex virtual learning is.

Honestly, minute one of this video from the Principal choked me up this morning. And I wanted you to know that it is still there. Our Flag, Our Pledge, "...One Nation, under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for All". And followed by a moment of silence that each and everyone can use as they see fit. Pray like your family prays, meditate, talk to your favorite grand-parent, sing, wish..........etc. Your right to choose. This is regular puplic school. Ordinary people choosing to put themselves thru &%!@ for young people. I thank God for them.

I get by on little bits of good. I watch and listen for them. I choose to dwell on them, while fighting the occasional feeling of pending doom. Last week I heard my daughter say something about "Ronik's carpet square". I didn't really hear it so I ask what she was talking about. She said "Ronik's carpet square from last year!". Again I ask what in the world she was talking about.

"Well you see, Ronik (15 year old female) has to tap her foot while she thinks. The tile floor in chemisty class is noisy. Ronik's tapping is easy to hear. She can't help it and we can't help but hear it. So, very early in the year, Mr. Lester brought in a carpet square for her. It was a surprise, he dropped it next to her desk, slid it under and told her "You keep tapping.........I'll keep teaching." Problem solved. No yelling. No embarrasment. No big issue. Just a simple fix with common sense. I have to tell you, that I have been involved in our puplic schools enough to promise you that this is more the norm, then what the media likes to show you. Don't be fooled. GOOD PEOPLE are still busy doing GOOD things. Watch for it. Listen. Take it to Heart. Keep the Faith. But carry an umbrella and rubber boots for the other stuff that is so popular.

I don't have facebook, so you guys are my outlet. Hope you have a good week. I can't concentrate on work, I'm getting constant texts from my daughter that she can't get in to school video class. Always work to be done. We will get thru this.

As expected, there were issues this morning, and the internet was lit up with mad off parents. Daughter had trouble early on and was not able to get "in" to 1st period. Things were improving and she is now "in" second period. I just got a text that her laptop just got the blue-screen-of-death. (she was on it since she suspected this mornings issues may have been casued by the school-supplied Chromebook. But it wasnt'). Our home router needed to be reset once also. Typical for my house.

Ok.............there is the text. Second period is done. She is going down stairs for brunch junkfest!

    Thumbs up

My mother, two brothers, their wives and sister are all teachers in Illinois and Colorado. They have had a heck of a go getting back into the new rhythm. But they do it will love and compassion for the kids. It’s been a tough go the first two weeks but the kids are finally settling in to the new “norm” and learning.

Bummer about Saturday but it looks like you had a great trip nonetheless with your folks.

I’m hoping to have my boat back by Saturday and I have an empty seat if you’d like to jump in. Was going to try the lower James again. Let me know if your interested

How very fortunate you are to have your mom and dad alive and your able to take them out. Fishing should start picking up in a couple weeks. Tight lines.

It is good to see some positive news in the midst of all the craziness going on. Kids like yours, their teachers and parents don't get heard anymore or receive the credit they deserve. Keep up the good work Bud.
