    Default Northwest River

Good morning this is my first post. I知 headed to Northwest River go try and catch some crappie today. I知 pretty new to boat fishing and crappie fishing. Any tips where to go? I知 putting the boat in at Bobs Fishing Hole and fishing with minnows. Are the crappie spawning yet? If not when do they start? Are there a lot of crappie there and what痴 their size? Anything else I should be fishing for?

Welcome to the board. I fish Northwest River a lot as a it's my backyard. You won't get this in time to get good use out of it today. But I would run down River to the state line, long linning , and travel up river. Next place is down River to an island just past the Northwest Park. Long line the east bank. Have your depth at 4 foot, using minnows, or plastics as you like. I spider rig the front of my boat, using six rods from 16 foot to 12 foot. Two foot leader, Barrel weight in the center, hook on bottom. Drop me a PM if you like, and I can tell you more. I have a silver Bass America,Blue slate GMC Sierra NC plates FSHNDUDE.

NW River is my primary place to fish.

The trick there is reacting to water level fluctuations. When there is a big drop, and then a return, the water down river can be a chocolate color and the bigger fish disappear. If you find that color water downriver, you do better coming back up toward Bobs.

When there is a big drop from high water, you'll find coffee color water that stinks near Bob's and have to run down river.

Generally, size is better down river, but water fluctuations trump everything else. Sometimes, it gets messed up enough that you have to fish lakes until it straightens out.

    Good luck.

This weekend looks Crappie no pun intended, I have to work Saturday, Sunday looks like it will blow you off the river.

There is a lot of places you can get out of the wind on that river.

Those are good places to try especially Snake Island. I would give the banks a serious try too. Its spawning time.
