Any specific water temps to look for? Down here the areas your describing would have 47-48 degree water temps right now. What baits do you use?

I'm no expert. We see many using minnows, jigs/curly tails (tipped with minnows), hopping blade baits, and double jig rigs. Our water didn't get too cold this years. We have 47 in the James river right now. I do know that Perch like to be close to the bottom, but not always deep. A biologist told me that they move very shallow to spawn. They "spray" their sticky eggs into structure, like super shallow woody stuff. The eggs will cling there while they mature. So don't rule out going to 1-2' of water and you might find the big fatties.
