Occ Rez 8/3

I've had a few trips since my last post with some success and a lot of learning in between. Launched at 5:45am and had breakfast on the water dead while sticking a Blue ice BGBS. First hit came with a dink with a full belly so at least I wasn't having breakfast alone. Water was about a foot or so lower than last trip and shad were showing around 4-6ft. Most of the hits were coming on the drop as I was trying to get in another bite for myself. Missed most of the hits until I finished eating then managed another dozen or so around the same size as the first. Switched to curly tail to try to see if I could entice something a little bigger but nothing was having it. Went with a heavier jig head and chartreuse BGBS and that seemed to get the bigger ones to cooperate. Fished until about noon as usual and ended the day with 38 total and a 13" crappie as best fish of the day. Name: 20190803_055150.jpg

Thanks, all. Boscoe, you actually got me to check to see if that was true and they are about the same length lol. My thumb does look shorter in the pics.

Nice report. How do you manage to spend 6 hours in a kayak without a sore back or butt? Most I have spent in mine is about 2 hours.

In my old kayak I used to use a boat throw cushion which helped a lot on my butt my back would still be pretty sore. The seat on the old town topwater is pretty comfortable in my opinion and the kayak is stable enough for me move around or stand so that helps. The 6 hour mark is where I do start to feel some soreness and might try using the cushion again for days I plan to fish a lot longer.

I've been looking at the topwater. Do you have the 10 or 12 foot one? Reasonable happy with it?

I have the 10 and love it. This is my first peddle drive kayak so I can't compare it to others. The 10 can do 3-3.5mph at a comfortable and sustainable peddle speed. The best feature for me is the instant reverse, so that alone made me incredibly happy with the investment. Even without a pdl drive the kayak itself is very stable, comes with a good seat and has a great layout for all my gear and electronics. Not the fastest thing to paddle, but tracks well and is quicker than my future beach discovery 104. I definitely recommend one or at least taking one out for a demo if possible. Please let me know what you decide on getting.

I'm sure it's nice. I keep changing what I want or think I want. I currently have the lifetime tamarack but I'm hoping to upgrade soon. For the little price difference I'm thinking about the longer 12 foot model. Will let you know when/if I decide. Thanks
