Default Western Branch Saturday, only 12 crappie but 6 decent ones.

Put my golf game on the back burner and headed out in search of crappie for the first time in four weeks. Decided to give Western Branch a try as I enjoy being on this lake and have had some luck there in the past but oddly have never caught a citation crappie there with numerous ones caught at Burnt Mills and Lake Prince. The bite was slow and it took me 2.5 hours to find my first crappie. Near the bottom in 18' of water on the remnants of an old tree. Only gave me three though. After a few more stops I picked up 6 more also in around 18' of water but this time fishing 10' deep, two more at another really old submerged tree and I netted 12 today but my biggest 6 went:

    1lb 2oz
    1lb 3oz
    1lb 3oz
    1lb 3oz
    1lb 4oz
    1lb 4oz

Which for me was a lot of fun as I have been catching 7" crappie in a pond behind my house for the last month. I had the best luck with an old old jig I pulled out of an old jig container and has done best in the pond behind my house. It's green/red with a chartreuse tail.

Pearl had always been good to me on this lake but I only got 2 with it today and 1 or 2 on Blue Ice. (gave Cajun Cricket a try with no takers which doesn't surprise me as the water at Western Branch is pretty clear)

Here's hoping I don't go another 4 weeks without fishing again.

George really nice to see you posting again. Miss your insight, and down on the river. I have seen that jig color before. Out at Kerr now, got smoked by my step son. He slammed a 14" close to a pound and a quarter. We were catching mostly 10 to 11 inch fish. White was the ticket todaywater is very high and muddy.Name: Resized_20190615_082124.jpg

Dave, what are you doing down at Kerr again, lol. Good fish under some tough conditions.

I'm not familiar with those bodies of water but sounds like good days had by all in my book. Thank you for the reports.
