Thread: Suffolk lakes/first week of June

Haven't made any posts in a long while. Read the threads about the "funeral." I've certainly been guilty about not posting. I've made a decent number of trips this year to various waters. Some met with great success, others not so much. However, I did hit a couple of lakes in Suffolk the last week. Wow. Those fish are on the chew. Everything was caught on jigs of various colors.

First trip I found the fish 4-5 ft. deep over 10. Didn't keep count, but I caught a bunch. Very good size overall, many over 14", lots of 12 and 13s. You can literally catch all the 11" fish you want. Very few small crappie. Well, small for me. I consider an 11" crappie an 'eater.

Second trip the numbers were down some, but overall size was very good again. Only one made 14", but the majority were right at 13". These fish were 8 ft. down over 12 feet of water.

Both trips were to different lakes, so I'd assume they are chewing on all those lakes. Again, color didn't matter, but I did do very well both times with BGBS in Cajun Cricket. A Tennessee Shad curly tail grub was a very close second, but each color I tried caught fish.

Made several trips to the NW River and had some very nice days in March/April. I'll try to remember to get on here and post some more current news as I ply other waters. I finally have a decent phone, so I guess I have no reason not to take some photos as well.

Interesting that you had good luck with Cajun Cricket. It works well for me at Kerr Reservoir when the water is a bit stained but I have not had much luck with it in Suffolk. May have to give it another try.

Tap, that has been my number 1 color for all our local waters for many years. I always have one of those tied on. I'll switch out with other colors during the day, but one rod always has that jig on it.
