    Default Gaston Bass? Genec? Roy?

"Little" Dayton has a high school bass tournament on Gaston on Saturday march 2. I'll be a non-fishing captain for the two boys. It's going to be cold water and probably muddy/stained water. My boat motor is acting up so we will probably stay in Holly Grove for the day. I know nothing about the area. Looking at charts there is a lot of deep water and ariel map shows lots of boat docks.

I know that you guys mostly crappie fish around Gaston, but any ideas where to start finding bass there and under such early year cold water?

    Thanks,

    Dayton

Here are the results from last year, when they fished on Buggs, deep in NC. We only boated 3 small fish, and we found them running the bank late in the day. It was April. Scroll down to VA and click on results on the right.

    Dayton,
I'm sure Gene can supply some pointers on where to fish. He's headed to Gaston tomorrow. His Grandson bass fishes Gaston as well. I'll be sure to let him know that y'all could use a little direction. Hope all is well. Come on down and fish Buggs sometime. I've heard a rumor we may have a crappie.com get together here sometime later this spring.

Though I would never claim to be a bass fisherman.... I can tell you that in April they will be right up under those docks, so right now in cooler weather I would hit the first ledge close to them or maybe anything on the north side where the main channel gets the sun all day.

During our little warm spell water got up to 50 degrees in some spots. A friend caught several nice chubs up to almost 8 pounds. He was using black and blue jigs and 4" white swim baits bumped across the bottom. I asked if he was fishing main lake shore or creeks. He said creeks. Keep us posted on the get together Roy. I've never fished Buggs before but I'd like to put it on my bucket list.

Thang you JD and Jim. I’m not much of a bass guy. I just hope to put these boys on 5 fish to take to the scale.

More important than that, thank you for your service to our Country and my family. It means the world to me.

Dayton there is a bridge in the back of 6 pound creek. go to the back side and cast crankbaits back to the culvert. Med diver. There is a brush pile in the middle. Also any bridge rip rap with crankbaits.
