Welcome aboard. I can't help you but we have some people that do fish that area. Hopefully they will jump in here.
trying to locate some crappie. Fished chicahominy lake Friday. Did not see any schools at all. I have never really targeted crappie before but thought id give it a whirl. I expected them to be in the deeper flats by now. Found what I think to be the deepest part of the lake. Had to set my fishfinder on live SONAR as my navionics didn't have the lake on there. Found a stretch about 16 feet deep with a slight drop off. Fished it up and down for several hours. using single minnows, jigs, jog heads with minnows, slip bobbers, caught a few bull head and blue cats. there were some bass hitting on top water. but like I said I couldn't find a school of anything anywhere. I think the next trip this weekend I will fish below the damn.

I have had good luck on that lake but for some reason come November they do a good job of hiding from me. Prior to November I had luck catching them in water under 10' deep.
Thanks for the information. I haven’t been here that long so I’m still trying to figure the area out. If they can get past that dam, maybe they move out into the river for deeper spots? I found a deep area right off the main channel of the lake, but it was only like 15 feet deep at the most, the rest of the lake is pretty shallow. Maybe they head down the river to the 20-30 foot deep areas.
Perhaps try some of the creek areas of the lake. I do very well in the spring when water temperatures are warmer. In fall and early winter I also catch some behind the dam in eddy areas.I think thee fish move around more when the water temperatures are dropping then in spring when it is warming and spawning coming. I am sure talking to Ed Allen or Captain Art Conway would be help full. Perhaps a 1/2 day guiding would be a huge help. Arts prices are very reasonable.
