    Default West Neck Creek/wormy crappie

Hit West Neck today. Hadn't been there but once this year. Caught a bunch of dink crappie. Had to work hard, but finally managed enough keepers for dinner. Odd thing, I've never seen so many worms in crappie. I'm used to that in saltwater fish from my time in Alaska and Iceland, but I've never seen so many in freshwater fish. One fish had 12 (the ones I saw, anyway). The majority of the worms were concentrated around the ribs as you would guess. Had to cut 4 out of the fillets.

At any rate, all fish caught on 1/32 oz. jigs with a variety of colors/shapes. No preference from the fish, just had to work for the good ones. There is no deep water in that creek. I got all of mine fishing the jig 3' under a bobber. I tried casting the jig, but they wanted it suspended under that bobber today for some reason. Fun day overall.

That's one reason I only keep crappie when the water temps are cool. They are bad on Lake Guntersville in AL.

Chick Lake is the same way and both bodies of water have that same tea colored water. I prefer to just bring crappie home from Suffolk or Buggs.
