Tore out a good part of the floor today and checked out the stringers and the foam. Stringers seem to be fine but foam is soaked. So decided the cap has to come off. The cap was also glassed to the floor all over the place. We took off the rub rail, got all the 500,000 screws out holding it together and cut all the glass that tied the cap to the floor. That cutting was hard because it was all seams and had to be careful not to hit the hull in spot. I cut most with a side grinder. We Jammed a crow bar in all the way around the cap and broke it loose. All that remains is putty that is under the front live well and on the transom. Now what we have to do is hook to the front and rear and lift slowly just putting pressure on while I work around the live well and pry until it pops loose and then work the transom loose and it should pop off.once I have the cap off, the remaining floor will be a lot easier to get to for removal. The most time consuming part will be cleaning out the hull of all the saturated foam. Get it out and fill the hull with water one time to check for bottom leaks. Then I will dry and clean the boat out really good and get everything prepped for the new floor. Sounds like a lot but went from just carpet and gas tank taken out to top cap ready to be removed and some of the floor removed. Got a ton done today. My Uncle helped My Dad and I today A LOT. If it had not been for him, we would never had gotten anywhere near as far as we had. Also found out the transom is in great shape which was a big relief. This boat is going to be great.CF

When you go to replace any wood, cut it to fit and then thin some resin 50/50 with acetone or whatever you use, set it to kick slow and roll it all over the wood to be installed. This thins the resin and allows it to soak way deep before it kicks. I built Ski Nautiques and they did every piece of wood this way, and when we got redo's the wood was still good, usually interior and gelcoat was all we had to deal with. Extra on the edges. The "reality list" you were given is probably pretty close and extra is better than short. You might lookinto where you might put rod holders and make sure there is enough backing there too. You'll have a nice ride when you're done. I don't regret spending the money on mine, though I had it done for the gelcoat work he did after the repair. I could hang a 200 on the back now as they upgraded the transom and knees but I would also have to grow a larger pair to drive it once I did, 150 is plenty. Good luck and keep us posted.....Skeet.

Gonna miss you on the the water. But I know that you will be so happy when you get it all done. I know as i did a ground up rebuild on my boat six years ago. Now its starting to her age, trailer is getting in poor shape. Was hopping to get a new G3 Talon this year but some other things like health care rising, etc. has put a hold on that. Maybe sometime. I still have this boat and I can keep patching the trailer. Keep us posted with pics Ed.

One day at a time becomes, one week at a time, then one month at a time.... Life gets in the way so make a commitment to X hours a week minimum and stick with it. Before you know it, you will have a great ride and be confident that your ride will do what you want.

Yeah. Gonna take some time. I have 200 acres of beans left to pick and then nothing major to do until late March. I am hoping to be finished before then. Just got to pick a few warm days to lay the fiberglass. That will be my only real hold up.CF

Here are some pics from the beginning and some of the work so far.

Ripped carpet up on floor and have cut this part of floor out. After cap is removed will cut the rest of floor out to get foam out.

When you get the boat back together and before you install your new carpet you should do your top gel coat. It will make the boat look brand new.

Even with a bad transom, that boat could become a dedicated 9.9 hp or trolling motor only boat.

Thanks Jim! Ricky wants the old boat's trailer. Have not made up my mind what to do with the old boat. Don't have shelter space. Got to do something with it.
