Default Forgot the camera trip, 6-1

Dagnabit, it was a good trip, too.
Kicked off June with a trip to a pond I hoped the power boaters wouldn't be using yet. I got lucky and no power boaters last night. No wind, either. It was a warm day at 87, warmest day of the year so far. Water temps were 76-77.
I was later than usual getting there and set up, it was 5:45 before I got my lines in the water. I trolled my way out to the point I wanted to fish but only got one strike and landed a good bluegill.
The surface was covered with the cotton from the poplar trees and that gunk would attach itself to my lines all evening. Since trolling wasn't producing, I went to single pole casting and that was the winning ticket for the night. A road runner head with a Southern Pro Triple tail grub would be the combo of choice for most of the evening, worked across the shallower areas and left to fall over the drop off.
A big pickerel would be the first contestant, about 18" and big bodied, followed by a nice bass of about 3-3 1/4 lbs. He was a bit over 18" on my ruler, a solid, healthy specimen. Fought hard and never jumped, just dug deep for the weeds.
A few nice bluegill followed, 8-9", hard fighting and digging for the weed tops.
I kept pushing up along the contour until I got to the point and using the same technique I found the crappie I'd been looking for. For the next hour, I'd fish both sides of that point with good results with crappie from 7" up to 12" being netted. It was a great learning experience as well as I had to tease and cajole them in to striking. Timing was everything as I was fishing pretty deep over the weed tops; wait too long and you were deep in the weeds and snagged. Too short and no action. Had to learn that balance.
Dead calm conditions as I fished that point and I could see the line move with the strike, usually on the drop after a lift of the line.
I was pretty tired after a hot day in the workshop and called it a night about 8:15. Totals would be one each of the bass and toothy demon fish, probably 8-9 bluegills and pumpkinseeds, and about 12-14 crappie.
Weather for the next week looks a bit iffy so not sure when the next trip will be. But I'll remember the camera when I go!
Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.
