Default A crappie day finally, 5-28

Finally, a trip where more crappie were caught than anything else. Beautiful day here yesterday and I just knew it was going to be a nice night to be on the pond. Launched about 5:10 with the air temp at 83 and the water temp out on the pond at 71. I was fishing a pond I hadn't fished yet this year. Calm conditions and what little wind we had would drop off to nothing a bit later on. First fish in at 5:15 was this 9"er.

I'd utilize both trolling a single pole casting as there was a lot of algae or some type of scum dotting the surface. Worked the edge of the weedline in 12-15' of water for the most part and that's where most of my fish would come from.

Most were pretty skinny and a good number were still colored up so the spawn is either still on or winding down. No monsters but hard fighters. Sizes ranged from about 6" up to around 11 or so, forgot my ruler so estimating the lengths.

I did get 2 of these demons, one got off at boatside but this one of about 18" tangled himself in the net, took me a while to get him out.

I called it a night just after 8. Totals for the night would be the 2 pickerel, 3 average 'gills and 16-18 crappie. Given the low crappie totals I've experienced this year, I felt like I hit the mother lode this trip!
Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.
