    Default Short morning trip, 5-20

With rain headed in for the afternoon, I managed a quick trip to see what I could find. It has been wicked windy here for the last week and it has kept me off the water. I spent that time working around the house here and have crossed a lot of things off my list and can now fish with less guilt about what wasn't getting done.
Anyway, I pushed off about 8:30 with relatively calm conditions and a solid overcast hiding the tops of the hills I could see. I actually drove through some misty areas on the higher elevations but the weather at the pond was dry. I chose a different pond than what I have been fishing so far this year.
Air temp at 56 with the water temp between 62 and 63. Lots of chopped up weeds on the surface for some reason so had some fouling of my lines while trolling. I soon stopped and began casting to the shallows and quickly hooked the first nice bluegill of the day, nearly 9".

A few more were boated over the next 15-20 minutes but not quite as big. The first and only crappie of the day would come from these same shallows, a 10" fish.

Repeated casts to the same area came up empty and I moved a bit further along the contour.
45 minutes in to the trip the wind would switch from basically the NE to coming from the ESE ahead of the front pushing up from the south and with that change, the OK bite I had would taper off. That wind was much stronger and before it moved me totally off the contour, I'd get this fat rockbass; hard fighting little bugger he was.

I'd try trolling again due to the wind but found no takers. I rowed over to a somewhat protected area but didn't find any action there either and elected to call it a day and get home before the rain started. I did get one last average 'gill before I packed everything away and landed back at the beach about 10:15.
Totals would be 8-9 bluegill of various sizes and one each of the crappie and rock bass.
My timing was pretty good as I was in to light rain and heavy misting once I got a mile or 2 from the pond.
Tomorrow looks to be a better day weather-wise and I'm hoping the wind won't be much and that I'll be able to get back out after them again.
Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.

Great few hours. Keep up the good times. Tight lines.
