    Default They're still bitin', 10-11

Another great day here in CT and I found it easy to not start another project in the shop late this afternoon just so I could sneak in another trip. Got on the water about ten to four with the air temperature at 67 and the water temp at 57. Color has blossomed since my last trip, here are a couple of snaps around the shore.

I trolled my 3 lines as usual, out over the deeper water since that's where I found them on my last trip. Started with 1/16 ounce heads. Took about 15 minutes to get the first bow in the rod, a nice bluegill; another followed about 5 minutes later. I had gone over some nice groups without a hookup which seemed strange. Next ones I went over I hit the button the Humminbird to switch to standard 2D and found they were not as deep as I thought they were; I think I was trolling under them. I switched to 1/32 ounce heads and things picked up right away. These were the next 2 to try their luck and lose. I landed the first and as I was reeling in for a restart the other line seemed heavy so I set the hook and had the 2nd.

It became a crappie kind of night, which put a stupid grin on my face. They were very active and showed a preference for light colored plastics like this one.

The light wind died off about 5:15 and I was able to hover over the schools and jig them up with regularity. Both crappie and bluegill were very active tonight and were the only 2 species I caught.

Once again, the bite slacked off about 6:15 and I headed for the beach about 6:30. I guess I ended up with perhaps 20 crappie; one little guy of about 7" (got him vertical jigging) and the rest all 10-12", really nice fish once again. For the bluegill, they were mostly in the 8"+ size, with a few smaller females sprinkled in; total for the 'gills would be around 15 or so.
Once again I had a blast and am looking forward to my next trip, whenever it might be. As has been the case with all my trips this year, all were returned for another day.
Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.

Outstanding trip again. Hope to see you out there more before the "hard water" sets in. Tight lines.
