Got a few this morning, 8-27
Last night, I set my sights on fishing today and this morning after taking care of those things that needed doing, I packed things up and headed out to see what I might find. I launched a bit after 8am, air temp at 69 and the surface water temp at 77.
3 other boats on the pond but we were all in different areas so that was good. Mostly cloudy skies with a pop out sun now and again. Had a stronger breeze on the water than I had here at home and knew right away I'd be dealing with it all morning. Lots of crud floating on the water, thanks to the power boats and skiers. Water level was down a long way and had a lot of weeds that had made it up to the surface to get chopped up by them. This pond and area got hit with a couple of good strong storms over the last 2-3 days as well so things were stirred up and murkier than I'd hoped for, too.
Anyway, I got my lines tossed out to troll as usual and had the first fish on within just a couple of minutes, a double at that!
I trolled along out from the weed edge in about 15' of water and quickly hooked up again, this time a nicer 'gill with lots of fight in him.
Soon floated over a nice group on the 2d sonar and a moment later, just about on cue, one of the rods loaded up with a better crappie, about a 10"er.
For the most part, the action wasn't as fast I'd expected, given the time of year and conditions but the 'gills and the crappie were there, just a question of talking them in to biting. Nothing too big today but those that I did get put a smile on my face, just by feeling the tug on the line.
This nice perch of about 12" pulled out some drag to start off with and then just gave up; I pulled him in without too much effort.
Best fish of the day came about 9:45, hitting the lure hard and running off to the side. Just as he did I had another strike on one of the other poles and landed and released a nice bluegill before bringing this one in to the net.
I called it a day about 10:15 as the sun finally broke through the clouds for good and the action seemed to slow. Total for the day would be 9 or 10 crappie, maybe 5 'gills and the one perch. All were returned for another day.
Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.
